Early 20th Century Antique Sivas Carpet

This east Anatolian city carpet has a dark brown ground covered by a jagged medallion enclosing a complex cream sub-medallion and small cartouches. Stiff vines, octogrammes, iris amphora palmettes, flowering tendril and regular palmettes are all executed in a semi-geometric manner. The beige-ivory border shows cypresses and complete lazy flowers.   .
